About the job
White House Press Secretary Washington, DC (In-Office, 7 Days/Week)
About the RoleThe press secretary stands at the most famous podium in the world and answers questions from the White House press corps on behalf of the President. Briefings are held in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room, at a frequency to be determined.
Why NowThis role has real momentum. Six people have held it since 2017, and the most recent one lasted 5 days. The position has now been open for 5 days and counting.
The problem is retention. Average tenure is about 11 months. The shortest was under a week. We need one person to take the podium, hold the podium, and ideally still be holding it next quarter.
What You'll Own
- The briefing room, end to end. Take questions… from 49 assigned seats and several unassigned ones.
- The message. Speak on behalf of the President, then confirm you still do.
- The podium. Gently used by 6 previous tenants. Please leave it as you found it.
- Your exit. Every person in this role gets one. Some come with notice.
What We're Looking For
- Experience in communications, cable news, or a campaign
- Comfortable on camera and on a short timeline
- Able to start immediately. Ability to stay is a plus
- Acting or interim experience is welcome but does not count toward the hire
Benefits
- Flexible end date
- Prime parking on West Executive Avenue, for now
- Book deal, TV contract, or governorship after you leave (not guaranteed, but common)
